Funko Pop! BAM! Exclusive DC Heroes Batman vs. Superman Patina Wonder Woman

Funko and BAM! Books a Million have just teamed up to bring an amazing exclusive with the Batman vs. Superman Patina Wonder Woman exclusive. When we learned of this exclusive, we had to jump on the offer and pick up a couple. 

If you have not ever ordered from BAM!, I can assure you they shipped quickly and very well. The Patina Wonder Woman Pop! figures came in double boxed with bubble wrap. To our surprise, they were shipped in the original exclusive box as well as an added bonus. 

The Patina Wonder Woman Pop! came in the regular Batman vs. Superman Wonder Woman packaging, but does include the BAM! exclusive sticker. 

The Patina finish definitely has a great look! We have included the pictures of the packaging with the figure. 

It was now time to release the Patina Wonder Woman! 

We are definitely very pleased with the finish that gives Wonder Woman that Bronze Statue feel. We did read many criticisms from people saying that the Patina finish is not a great look, but we have to say this is such a great look, especially for Wonder Woman. 

If you are a DC Comics or Wonder Woman fan, we highly recommend picking up this exclusive from BAM! It is sure to be that one piece you will regret not getting. 

 

Action Comics #1 Sold for $3.2 Million Dollars

With a previous record of making $2.1 Million Dollars in 2011, it is safe to say that Action Comics #1 will remain the most valuable comic book of all time. An Ebay auction would end today breaking the record of 2011, by selling a CGC 9.0 Action Comics #1 for $3.2 Million Dollars. Definitely could be a great investment to sell that copy in less than 3 years and make a profit of $1.1 Million Dollars even though this was not the copy of 2011 previously owned by actor, Nicolas Cage. 

It is really hard to believe that there are actually at least two CGC 9.0 grade Action Comics #1 copies that do exist from the original 1938 comic book that would introduce the world to Superman. 

Who knows what treasure we may find out there? We still have yet to see a Detective Comics #27 CGC 9.0 comic book. Does one exist and if so, could it beat the record of $3.2 Million Dollars?

DC Entertainment's Injustice: Gods Among Us - Lex Luthor Trailer

 

Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment released a new video, spotlighting the brilliant but infamously ruthless arch nemesis of Superman, Lex Luthor, in the upcoming fighting gameInjustice: Gods Among Us. Narrated by Luthor himself, this new video hints at his role in the mysterious organization known as “the regime” and gives insight into his motivations and allegiance in the ever-changing power struggle that exists inInjustice: Gods Among Us.

 

Luthor sums up his reason for joining the regime in one short sentence, “I always choose the winning side.”

Man of Steel Panel at San Diego Comic Con 2012

Superman fans would finally have their time in Hall H during the Warner Brothers/ Legendary Pictures panel at San Diego Comic Con 2012. We would finally see the first footage in Man of Steel for the first time! The Man of Steel panel would follow Pacific Rim and Godzilla. 

This is what we would see on the big screen and the cheers were loud. 

Chris Hardwick would soon introduce Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch) to the stage, who is directing Man of Steel. 

Zack Snyder appeared to be very nervous by himself on the stage as he talked about Man of Steel. He was very quiet and kept his answers very quick. He would soon break out of his nervousness as his next guest would be introduced. 

Henry Cavill (Clark Kent/ Superman) would soon join the stage, and the man responsible for playing one of the greatest superheroes, would be welcomed by 6500 attendees. 

Zack Snyder would give us a synopsis on Man of Steel and for the first time, a World Premiere of footage from Man of Steel. 

Again, I wish we could record the footage, but under strict rules, we are not permitted.What we would see was awesome. It began with narrating and seeing a young boy. We would then see a clip of a young boy pulling up a bus in water and hearing a woman mentioning that she saw Clark pull that bus up. There would be quick clips, in between and we see Clark Kent in a full beard in what appears a small town in the winter. We would hear Kevin Costner (Jonathon Kent) as he is talking to Clark Kent about who he is. The audience would soon see what they hoped for, Superman. We finally got to see him in action with a scene of him flying straight in the air. We did not know what to expect in the footage, but we would see Superman in action fighting someone who has hit him and causing him to fly back into what appeared to be a bank vault and smashing it in during the impact. The footage shown looked very promising and I knew this would be much better than Superman Returns (2006). 

Following the footage, a quick Q&A would be open to the audience. Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill have to share with the audience how honored they were to be part of an iconic character in the DC Universe. Henry Cavill would share his excitement in knowing how incredible it was to be that person that holds that infamous symbol on his chest. A couple of guests would bring great laughter to the crowd with their questions. One gentleman would be so nervous up there and showed great emotion in tears in how excited he was. It even got Chris Hardwick to come running down to give him a hug. 

One young lady would even be so brave to ask for Henry Cavill's name tag. He did say yes and he met her at the stage where he delivered it to her. Of course, the audience was not pleased and actually booed her for asking, but I give her credit because she now owns his name tag from the panel. 

Overall, the footage and panel were terrific and has me ready to see Man of Steel next June 14, 2013.

Sideshow Collectibles Creating the Man of Steel

In the room fondly referred to as “the Sculptor’s Parlor” deep in the heart of the Sideshow Collectibles building Andy Bergholtz works diligently. Life-sized skulls of humans and monsters keep a vigil from above, just below a plaque that reads Haunted Mansion. On the wall to the right of the desk is another plaque, stamped with the words of Walt Disney: “Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy.” 

It’s appropriate. Andy’s eyes, framed as they are by his reddish mutton chops, peer through his framed glasses at his current project. Which, as it turns out, is the Man of Tomorrow himself. He’s forging a Man of Steel, carving from a dull grey material and into 1/4-scale life the Premium Format Figure of Superman_™. 

 “It’s not a specific comic book version,” he says. “That is, the design isn’t based on the artwork of any single artist. Our idea was to just sort of draw a little from one artist, a little from another.” 

Illustrator Kris Anka’s concept art for the figure lies propped up behind the sculpt. In it, the Man of Steel stands wrapped in a frozen fog atop an icy pinnacle of the Fortress of Solitude, eyes stern and burning red, his brilliant blue uniform and billowing red cape the only colors evident in the harsh arctic environment. 

The figure will come with two head sculpts. “He’ll have one staring-into-the-distance portrait,” Andy explains. “The other one will be looking down, like in the Anka print, with very stern eyes, like he’s getting ready to light something up with his heat vision. After working on Batman, it’s rather exciting for me to be working away now at another iconic figure from the DC Universe.”

Sideshow Collectibles newest license is in DC Comics, and they have started it right, first with the Premium Format Joker and now a sneak peek in Superman, the Man of Steel.

How Many Lost Collections Remain Out There?

What would you do if you learned a family member has been keeping a rare collection hidden and ended up inheriting it? I am not sure what I would do and maybe one day I will get that rare opportunity. In a recent article in USA Today, a family had the opportunity to learn that a great uncle had one of the greatest collections tucked away in his basement from Action Comics #1, Detective Comics #27, and Captain America #2. The collection actually had 44 of the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide's top 100 issues from comics' golden age. This amazing find brought in $3.5 million to auction!

What makes this find so amazing is that the comics managed to remain preserved in incredible shape in the basement. I could only imagine that this would not be possible in California or Florida with the humidity or moisture.

Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles Tribute to Superman (Christopher Reeve)

Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys have done it again with another incredible masterpiece from the DC Comics Universe. We just received the Hot Toys/Sideshow Collectibles Exclusive 1/6th Scale Superman, which pays great tribute to Christopher Reeve. This interpretation of my favorite Superman films is near perfect in the head sculpt of Christopher Reeve. 

The Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles Exclusive 12-inch Superman comes with all the accessories as the regular version, plus a Kryptonite neck chain. Just as we mentioned in our Hot Toys 12-inch Batman-Bruce Wayne (Batsuit Begins) review, we were hesitant to open this one because of how I have always been with my toys. I am realizing now though, there are things I miss in not opening a great piece like this. 

The DC Comics New 52 Continues with #2's Tomorrow

As many of you may know, the DC Comics New 52 #1's have all now been released and the first week in October now brings us #2's. Tomorrow will be a release of many #2's as listed in the picture, but you will be in luck if you missed out on some #1's with second prints. They will be sure to fly off the shelves as the first prints went. What were some of your favorites in the DC New 52? Will the New 52 continue to be as hot as they were with the #1's? DC Comics New 52 Is a Huge Success Attached with Some Controversy

 Tomorrow will be the final week in the release in the DC Comics relaunch of the new 52. DC Comics announced today that all 52 have sold out and are all receiving a second printing. The numbers have been incredible for DC Comics and I am sure the comic shops are loving this resurgence because it has brought in many new readers. I will be honest, it has helped us to pick up a few new comics that we had not read before to crave our curiousity and I am sure glad that we chose to do so. 

We made sure to suscribe for the more popular titles such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Action Comics, Wonder Woman, and a few more of the big ones, but when we walked into our local shop I needed more. What was with the New 52 on those DC covers that made them more attractive? I have definitely enjoyed most of the books we have picked up so far in the new 52 and DC Comics has sold me to now add a few more issues to my monthly subscription. The stories have been well written and the art has been amazing. They have chosen great teams to work together. 

Relaunching the DC Universe is somewhat amazing and unbelievable, but it was done right and at a perfect time. The success is always great, but there are a few problems that may sometimes arise. Out of 52 titles, there had to be a little controversy right? Is it possible to never run into one problem with this many new titles out there? Maybe so, but unfortunately, we need excitement and we need to stir up news as humans. Last week actually released 2 titles in the New 52 that stirred up the most controversy in the whole DC relaunch. 

 Catwoman #1 and Redhood and the Outlaws #1 were both released last week and Catwoman was being talked about a little while before its release already. The cover of Catwoman in itself may explain the reasons why it created a buzz. Catwoman has always been a mysterious, seductive character and her outfit fits this personality well in this new series, which may be why it has caused some controversy or a buzz in the comic world. Redhood and the Outlaws #1 on the other hand has created big controversy for DC Comics with plenty of articles and posts all because of Starfire. Starfire has always worn a lighter outfit, right? Well I guess what makes her unique in this issue is that she did have a few lines that would be very controversial, especially for DC Comics. This is a relaunch and this sometimes requires some new changes. Some may feel this is not good, but many more may feel that this is good to tie in more modern times. Either way, the success of the relaunch has been incredible and this controversy may boost it even more! We will have to wait and see what DC does with this one. 

What do you think? Will they apologize and do a few changes to Starfire? Should the readers adjust to this new change and should Red Hood and the Outlaws focus on more mature readers?

Action Comics #1 is Coming this Week!!

The DC Comics new 52 began last Wednesday, and we saw a short glimpse of Superman. There was something different about him. He of course still has the "S" on his chest and his costume is blue and his cape is red, but there was something missing. We have known Superman for over 70 years now and we have remembered him for the "S" on his chest, blue suit, red cape, and red undies, but he is being changed. 

In the first issue of Action Comics that was released in 1938, we got to see the first appearance of Superman and it created one of the most famous superheroes to exist. In 2011, Action Comics #1 will be released this Wednesday, September 7th, and of course brings Superman back, but with a new look. The red underwear is gone, and in this version the cape is directly attached to the armor itself. Action Comics #1 will provide us the full story of his costume. 

In Superman, Man of Steel (2013), there have been many pictures floating around the internet of Henry Cavill as Superman. In the pictures, we have seen Superman without his red underwear and it has stirred up many conversations. I realize now that this change is working out perfect for the change in the DC Universe and we may find our answers this Wednesday in the release of Action Comics #1. 

Action Comics #1 is being created by the team of Grant Morrison and Rags Morales. The first printing has not even been released and we have learned that it is already going to have a second printing. Make sure you do not forget to get to your local comic shop this Wednesday to pick up the first printing.

 This will actually be my first Superman series and I am looking forward to it. I am excited about this DC Comics re-launch because of it allowing me to start it off in the beginning. 

The New 52 Have Begun with Justice League #1!!

On Wednesday, August 31st, history was made in the comic world. DC Comics re-launched the DC Universe with the first of 52, Justice League #1. 

Justice League #1 brings in some of our favorites from the DC Universe, which includes Batman, Green Lantern, Superman, and the beginning of Cyborg, Vic Stone. Geoff Johns and Jim Lee begin the re-launch of the new 52 right in Justice Leauge #1. I have been a fan of Jim Lee's for a very long time. I love his style and I look forward to seeing his vision in drawing these famous characters. What part of the DC Universe has Geoff Johns not been part of? He is a legend and I look forward to seeing where he takes us with this new beginning in DC Comics. 

The new 52 has brought in many questions and concerns since the very beginning of being known. Many DC fans were upset because they felt that the stories should just continue and why start over, especially now. I was fortunate enough to be a comic collector during the beginning of something new in Image Comics in the 90's. The stories and new series seemed to be coming out each week. I loved seeing new original stories and artists and writers. I am really looking forward to this re-launch because I amongst many readers that will get the chance to be part of this history in the making. 

In Justice League #1, we do see the beginning of the team coming together, of course not as easy as we would expect. We know that Batman would not make it that easy, right? Batman is someone that can usually take care of himself, but he may need some help every now and then. Green Lantern makes his appearance and they come together to find this Superman. This team will have to come together knowing that Darkseid will be coming soon! I do like giving away too much, but I am really looking forward to this series. Justice League #2 will be, Batman vs. Superman!! If you want to start a new series, I would highly recommend the Justice League. DC Comics just announced that it is already going into a third printing and it has only been out a week. What??? It is that good. 

I am concerned about the re-launch. I am concerned I will want to pick up all 52 if they are going to be as good as Justice League #1. The cover of Justice League #1 second printing has been revealed and it looks awesome. 

Super Heroine Day

Today was Super Heroine Day at the Tucson Comic Book shop Heroes and Villains. Noel Neill, the original actress to portray Lois Lane, was on hand to start the festivities. Festivities included Noel Neill signing autographs and taking pictures. Fans were able to select one of four pictures,  have them personalized and autographed by Noel Neill.
