Aspen Comics Free Comic Book Day 2014 Schedule of Events

Following consecutive weekends at WonderCon and Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, Aspen Comics will be kicking off the month of May with signing appearances in local comic stores across the nation for Free Comic Book Day on Saturday May 3^rd, 2014.

The publisher will offer a FCBD Worlds of Aspen 2014 flip book featuring exclusive zero issue stores for upcoming series Damsels in Excess and The ZooHunters, as well as two pullout posters for titles Jirni and Lola XOXO.

Vince Hernandez’s Damsels features all the trappings of a fantastical land: kingdoms, magic, talking animals – but no men. With a ancient threat looming, the princesses of the Five Realms will find their differences threaten to tear them apart.

The ZooHunters, written and penciled by Peter Steigerwald (Lady Mechanika), is an intergalactic adventure about Abros, a ZooHunter – someone who captures animals across the galaxies for zoos on various planets – who gets to know his son Ty while training him to follow in his footsteps, all while trying to keep ahead of the forces that would impede them.

Ed Piskor (1982) is an alternative cartoonist living and drawing out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a former student of The Kubert School and is best known for his artistic collaboration with underground comics pioneers Harvey Pekar, his graphic novel Wizzywig, and his blockbuster series Hip Hop Family Tree. Piskor is revered for his combination of golden age drawing style and smart storytelling. The Washington Post once said that "Piskor is able to render a world that resonates as truth." Top Cow's Aphrodite IX Relaunches at Free Comic Book Day

Readers will get a chance to start reading APHRODITE IX for free this May 4, as Top Cow debuts the re-launched Top Cow series on Free Comic Book Day.

THINK TANK writer and Top Cow President Matt Hawkins teams up with fan-favorite artist Stjepan Sejic (ARTIFACTS, RAVINE) to bring Aphrodite IX, the green-haired, memory-challenged assassin to a new generation of readers. In a dystopian future populated by warring factions of the genetically modified and the cybernetically enhanced, Aphrodite IX awakes to world where the sky is scorched, humanity as it was known is gone and two disparate groups fight for survival and dominance of the very scarce resources left on what's left of Earth.  

"Aphrodite IX has always been my favorite character at Top Cow,” said Hawkins. "She's interesting visually, combined with a personality that's sort of out of control of her own experiences and lost in the tangled web of her own mind. Heroes and Villains plans to give away thousands of comic books on Saturday, May 4th from 10am-7pm, as part of their annual Free Comic Book Day celebration.

Titles include: Superman: The Last Son of Krypton, Marvel comics: Infinity, Star Wars, The Walking Dead, Sesame Street, Spongebob, Teenage Mutant Ninjas Turtles, Archie and many more!

Philanthropic costuming clubs The Justice League of Arizona, The Arizona Avengers, The 501st Legion, AzTardis(Doctor Who group), and My Little Pony club: United Bromide of Tucson will be on-hand to pose for photos and welcome kids to the world of comic books.

Free Comic Book Day crafting theme this year is "May the 4th be with you" with a slew of easy-to-do Star War crafts for children of all ages. With anything from Princess Leia yarn buns to Lightsaber popcicle koozies.

Free Comic Book Day May 2012

Did you have a chance to go to your local comic book shop for Free Comic Book Day? We did and had a blast.  Our first stop was at Heroes and Villains. It was there we were met with a long line of other comic book fans. We were greeted by The Ghost Busters, Batman, Jango Fett and the Emperor just to name a few of the cosplayers.

Inside we stood in line to pick up free comics, even Batman had to wait in line. You could select one of each title available for Free Comic Book Day. At the end of the free comics line, patrons were able to pick out a free hero-clix. We grabbed Antivenom and Beast, it was a nice surprise.
