Amazing Arizona Comic Con 2013 is Near!!

2012 was an incredible year full of great fun and excitement in comics, toys, movies and TV, and art. Angry Koala Gear was fortunate to keep up with some of the big news and updates and we attended many comic conventions throughout the year. Let 2013 now begin and we have great news to bring with attending our first comic con for the year, which happens to be the first in the year, Amazing Arizona Comic Con.

We have attended each of the Amazing Arizona Comic Cons, which were held at the Mesa Convention Center, but has now moved to the Phoenix Convention Center. Amazing Arizona Comic Convention is on the weekend of January 25 - 27. The convention was created by brothers Bill and Jimmy Jay of JayCompanyComics, who wanted to bring something new and definitely "Amazing" and they have created one of our favorites. The line-up of guests and companies have brought many fans to come out and increase in numbers, which is why it has been moved to the Phoenix Comic Convention and doubling in size.

We look forward to the return of some of our favorites in the comic industry such as creators from Aspen Comics and John Layman (Chew), but we will get the privilege to meet Jim Lee and Stan Lee along with many other special guests. We are excited and looking forward to sharing the news and updates. One lucky individual will get the opporunity to actually win an amazing set of Amazing Spider-Man #700 from Stan Lee himself.

We have enjoyed Amazing Arizona Comic Con very much and look forward to attending once again. Matt Perez of the Angry Koala Gear created something in honor of the first comic con of the year with a Custom Triceratops resin figure, which he used our new line of Sporez figure.

Keep an eye out for the Angry Koala Gear Custom Triceratops Sporez resin figure to be wondering the floor of Amazing Arizona Comic Con 2013! See you guys soon!

Stan Lee said: “In doing a new superhero project, the most important problem is-- how to make it new and different?  Our Mighty 7 is the world's first original and exciting "reality" superhero thriller!  And best of all, I couldn't have better partners than Andy Heyward, Jon Goldwater and POW's own Gill Champion!”

“Working with A2 and Archie has been a most exciting partnership, and we are looking forward to building a worldwide franchise around “Stan Lee’s Mighty 7,” said Gill Champion, POW! Entertainment’s CEO.

So Much More Than Our Debut at Stan Lee's Comikaze

The countdown is on for Stan Lee's Comikaze on September 15th - 16th and we are thrilled nervous at the same time. It will be our official debut at a show and we have big things planned for the event on both days. We are very grateful and honored to have a few very special guests that will be hanging out at our booth #1706.

On Saturday, September 15th from 1pm-3pm, we will have Randy Martinez and Denise Vasquez who we admire. We are huge Star Wars fans and because of our love for Star Wars, this is how we would learn of these two amazing artists. We have followed Randy Martinez' works since Star Wars Celebration I and have loved his art from each event. His art does not stop in Star Wars, but he has created amazing Marvel paintings, and hundreds of sketch cards for many different companies. Denise Vasquez is also amazing in every way with a tremendous personality. She has many talents that include acting, writing, singing, songwriting, painting, and designing custom toys. What is amazing about these two? It could be the very first time you meet them and they treat this first encounter as if you were friends for a very long time. They have a great love for art and their pieces reflect it and they have a great interaction with fans.

Again, we are thrilled to have Randy Martinez and Denise Vasquez as our special guests and they are bringing an amazing surprise with them to the show! Denise and Randy have been working together to create something special for all the geeks. They just launched a new design titled, Empowerment: Mega Fangirl, which they are selling t-shirts, hoodies, onesies, stickers that are now available to order on Redbubble. Well we have incredible news!! We are honored to have the Official Print Release for the Empowerment: Mega Fangirl print, limited to 100 prints at our booth #1706. The prints will be available at our booth and you can get them signed by both Randy Martinez and Denise Vasquez on Saturday, September 15th from 1pm - 3pm.

Who is Ready for Stan Lee's Comikaze?

Who is ready for Stan Lee's Comikaze? We are nearly there with less than two weeks away and we are getting in "Gear"! Stan Lee's Comikaze has something for everyone, especially for the nerds and geeks alike. Los Angeles finally has its very own pop culture convention filled with everything from comics, gaming, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, art, and toys. Last year would be the first and change history for Los Angeles. We were fortunate to attend last year with some Comikaze Expo coverage and we had a blast!

What makes Stan Lee's Comikaze special is that it was created by siblings, Regina Carpinelli (CEO) and Fabiano Carpinelli (Vice President) and friends who were and are big fans of comics and especially gaming. Stan Lee and Elvira would be the guests of honor last year and saw how amazing the first Comikaze would be with over 35,000 attendees in its first year of existence. Stan Lee and Elvira would see something special, which is why they are now behind this amazing annual event for Los Angeles.

The first year was truly amazing and this year will only be even better. The line up of guests continues to get better and the news and updates continues rolling in as we get closer.

What can Stan Lee's Comikaze be without Stan Lee of course? Stan Lee is a superstar every time you see him walk into a convention, the crowd goes nuts. He of course will be making his presence known with signings and photo ops. The lists of guest for comic creators is going to be amazing with Todd McFarlane, Mark Silvestri, Jhonen Vasquez, J.T Krul, Marat Mychaels, Camilla d'Errico, Joe Benitez, Tony Moore, and many more! Looks like we will be bringing a lot of our comics to get signed!

Stan Lee and Elvira will lead the way of course, but we are excited for a couple of big reunions. A Batman reunion for the original TV series will be made with Adam West (Batman), Burt Ward (Robin), and Julie Newmar (Catwoman). Boondock Saints fans will be in for a treat with Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery. Last year, Nickelodeon fans witnessed a classic reunion with the cast of All That and this year we see another Nickelodeon reunion with the cast of Salute Your Shorts and Wild and Crazy Kids.

One of our favorite web series is the ever popular The Guild. This week Comikaze made the announcement that Felicia Day and cast of The Guild will be making an appearance and we are excited.

As we mentioned earlier, the Comikaze staff are huge gamers and they definitely bring gaming! There will be a huge Warhammer tournamentt, Heroclix tournament, and Magic the Gathering, featuring artists.

There are a few great contests as well, which include Elvira's Horror Hunt, Stan Lee's Search for America's Next Greatest Super Hero and Villainous Villain, Stan Lee's Comikaze Masquerade, and the First Shock and Awesome Custom Toy Contest. We were thrilled and honored to be part of the Shock and Awesome Custom Toy Contest by being a co-sponsor and creating the trophy for the Grand Prize winner. Please stop by our booth #1706 to see the winners and the trophy!

A new event that is sure to add great excitement, especially if you are a fan of zombies is the Comikaze Zombie Apocalyse. This is going to be amazing because it is a huge obstacle course over 75,000 sqft filled with flesh and brain eating zombies. Will you survive? This year is terrific because of adding one of the most if not the most popular character from AMC's The Walking Dead, Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) and Tony Moore, the original artist for The Walking Dead series from Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment.

There will be great panels to attend, which is something we always look forward to. The schedule is not yet available, but we will keep you updated on the news. One feature that Stan Lee's Comikaze is adding this year are con exclusives. We always are excited to pick up the show exclusives at the cons because of how limited they often are. There are some great exclusives, which include an awesome print from Camilla d'Errico, Grimm Fairy Tales exclusive from Zenescope, Super Tako plush, and our debut Cthulu Chameleon figure, "Comikaze Cthulu Chameleon" found at booth #1706.

Angry Koala Gear
"Comikaze Cthulu Chameleon"
Extremely Limited Debut

The list of exhibitors is continuing to grow and we will be definitely paying a visit to most of them who are some of our favorites we always visit at other events. There will be Aspen Comics, Cryptozoic Entertainment, Jay Company Comics, Reed Gunther Comics, Zenescope Entertainment, Beefy and Co., FrankenFactory, 3 Coconut Monkey, our very own Angry Koala Gear booth #1706, and many more.

There is so much more that Stan Lee's Comikaze will be offering this year. It is hard to believe this is just the second year and we look forward seeing it grow each year. Get your tickets now!

Please stay tuned for our updates on our booth. We have a couple big surprises and we are very excited!

Stan Lee's Comikaze Presents: Totally Geektastic 80's Dance Party

San Diego Comic Con 2012 is nearly upon us! We are getting the gear together and the scheduling down for the panels, meeting the guests, setting up interviews, which exclusives to buy, and having some fun at parties. We have attended San Diego Comic Con for quite a few years now, but until last year, we never attended the SDCC parties. Thanks to Comikaze Expo who began their venture into a new Pop Culture convention last year, we were able to attend their amazing party. Comikaze Expo knows how to throw a party, which had many great surprise guests that came through. Being huge Guild fans, we had the chance to meet some of the cast members, Doug Jones, Rick Fox, and of course, Mr. Stan Lee.

Comikaze Expo was created by Regina Carpinelli, and siblings Fabiano and Mario Carpinelli who grew up in the Pop Culture world and are fans of comics, horror, sci-fi, anime, and gaming. Comikaze Expo was created because Los Angeles needed a convention for nerds, geeks, pop culture fans like us. There have been many conventions in the LA area, but they never were able to have the large scale like San Diego Comic Con. Many artists, writers, and creators live in the Los Angeles area and I always have wondered why this could never happen. Thanks to the creation of Comikaze Expo, 2011 would change that with the Invasion in Los Angeles, where over 35,000 attendees would create something new and create history. Stan Lee and Elvira, Cassandra Peterson, would be a huge presence at Comikaze Expo and draw many fans to their booths. Both superstars would now help Comikaze Expo forever in becoming something even larger and it is now known as Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo

2011 was a great year with the big Comikaze Expo party at SDCC, and 2012 will be even more promising and exciting with Stan Lee's Comikaze presenting: Totally Geektastic 80's Dance Party.

Last year was just the first year, so I can only imagine the second being even bigger! We wonder who will be walking through the doors as surprise celebrity guests?

Stan Lee and his Comikaze Crew do not enjoy doing things without the fans! This year, instead of being like all those snobby industry parties at Comic-Con, we are shaking things up and EVERYONE IS INVITED!

This is what is going down:
80's school hip-hop icon, Egyptian Lover, will be bringing totally radical mixes. As well as DJ Gigi and The Beat Junkies, who will be hitting the tables. Smart Patrol, a totally fantastical Devo tribute band will be whipping you good! There will also be special performances by DAZZLER and Jem and The Holograms! And finally, there will be a break dance competition. GET INTO IT, and try not to have your mind blown.

Everyone who shows up in a cosplay costume will get a door prize. Yeah, we do not lie. Best costume gets $500 cash! There will be drink specials ALL NIGHT, so try a Sun Drop cocktail, or a Monster and vodka!

Zenescope will be showing off some videos of the New Grimm Fairy Tales animated feature, Geekscape.net will be handling the gossip, and Doron Ofir of Popular Productions will be bringing some massive scandals.

Cost is only $15 for all this live awesomeness! No one throws a party like Stan Lee's Comikaze. So hop on the free shuttle to Spin and kick it with us 'til 5am, because our doors do NOT close!

So click this link to get your tickets now! Bring your pals because you never know what we are gonna make happen: http://fla.vor.us/wafform.aspx?_act=eventview&_pky=130582

The Angry Koala Gear crew is definitely looking forward to this party. 80's music?? May show for our age, but we grew up in the 80's, which was an amazing decade in music, dance, and entertainment. I am a huge fan of hip hop and I am thankful for growing up in the beginning of it with the graffiti, music, dj's, break dancing and pop locking and even the movies (of course, I wish a few of them would be remade to give them a little better acting). This was the time of new wave music and why not celebrate with Smart Patrol who will "Whip It Good". The party goes live with the World Famous Beat Junkies spinning!! There is going to be a break dancing competition, which I wish I could still do, but the age has caught up to me on being flexible. I do hear though that I still have some pop locking skills (Mr. DJ, please play some Planet Rock). One of the artists I loved hearing during the break dancing days is one of the originators, Egyptian Lover. When I heard he was coming through, the childhood memories kicked in.

Egyptian Lover will definitely get the party jumping with Egypt Egypt, I Need a Freak, And My Beat Goes Boom, and many more. Looking forward to hearing who else may be coming through as the musical guests! I will definitely be dusting off the Adidas and I wonder if I can bring my cardboard with me.

One of our favorite things about attending comic cons of course is the cosplayers in their amazing creativity of designing their costumes. We will be looking forward to the Costume Contest. Zenescope Entertainment is also coming through with premiering their New Grimm Fairy Tales Animated series videos! We had the opportunity to attend the panel at Wondercon, where Zenescope would present the Kickstarter that would launch this project and bring the Grimm Fairy Tales Animated series to life!

We are excited and ready for San Diego Comic Con 2012 and we definitely look forward to seeing and meeting you at Stan Lee's Comikaze: Totally Geektastic 80's Dance Party.

Shock and Awesome Custom Vinyl Toy Contest at Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo

Join us for the first Shock and Awesome Custom Vinyl Toy Contest at Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo this September 15th and 16th! Regina Carpinelli (co-founder) of Comikaze Expo was inspired by various custom vinyl pieces to want a contest and we were fortunate to be part of this idea to happen. We are fans of vinyl toys and we wanted to be part of this contest and for it to be great.

The contest is very simple to join and will be a lot of fun! Thanks to Edgar Pasten of 3CoconutMonkey.com and LittleHouseDesigns.net for creating the toy behind the contest, the Yo! figure. John Ottinger's Boner will also be part of the custom vinyl contest. Two great figures that will be amazing to see what the participating artists will be creating.

The contest will consists of 2 rounds and the first round starts from May 10th - July 30th. The judges will review all entries and pick the top 30 as Round 1 winners. All 30 winning entries will win 2 passes  to Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo.

Round 2 will begin August 10th - September 12th, where we will invite the top 30 entries to a public exhibition at the Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo. The judges will then award and announce the top 3 with cash and swag from various partners.

Here are the rules and breakdown of the contest:
