Travel Channel's Toy Hunter Returns for Season 3 this January 29th

More Toys, More Celebs, More Money!  Acclaimed toy dealer Jordan Hembrough is back on the hunt to find the holy grail of toys and collectibles with bigger price tags that earn bigger profits in the third season of “Toy Hunter,” premiering on Wednesday, January 29 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.  This season, the scope of Hembrough’s travels expands beyond basements and attics – taking him to bigger conventions, more Comic-Cons and overseas.  Hembrough is in search of iconic memorabilia for his high-profile clients including Gary Busey, Vanilla Ice, Hulk Hogan, Stan Lee and Taboo (Black Eyed Peas). 

“We were all kids once and loved playing with toys,” said Hembrough.  “And, in the new season of ‘Toy Hunter,’ viewers are able to join me again on the ultimate road trip to search for those toys and collectibles that celebrate their youth.”

In the premiere episode, Hembrough, founder of Hollywood Heroes – a New Jersey-based vintage and modern collectibles company – teams up with hip-hop icon Daryl “DMC” Daniels of legendary group Run-DMC and travels to Staten Island, New York on a quest to find vintage toys.  From Big Jim’s Camper to Action Jackson, Hembrough and the music icon score some amazing collectibles to give to the kids at Camp Felix, DMC’s charity.  On his own, Hembough continues his toy search for the kids and his other clients and picks-up some great finds including the “Space: 1999” Eagle 1 Spaceship and the 1960’s Fort Apache carry-all action play set.

In each of the thirteen half-hour episodes, Hembrough travels the globe armed with his encyclopedic knowledge of toy history and savvy skills of negotiation to track down the rarest pieces for his clients.  Whether it’s the Dr. Kromedome doll from “The Six Million Dollar Man” worth $4,000 purchased in Birmingham, United Kingdom or the pristine set of “Star Wars” action figures found in Scottsdale, Arizona – Hembrough and his team are always on the lookout for that special toy.  This season, Hembrough finds himself buying and selling in many cities across the country including Los Angeles, Miami, San Diego and Cleveland.

Travel Channel Names the 2013 Travel's Best Halloween Attractions

Definitely a favorite time of the year for the Angry Koala Gear team is Halloween time! We have attended quite a few Halloween attractions, big and small and we have always made the best of them. Born and raised in Southern California, we were fortunate to have Knott's Berry Farm close by and we had to attend Knott's Scary Farm every year. It is definitely still at the top of our list and the Travel Channel's list as well. 

In celebration of the Halloween season, TravelChannel.com names the “Travel’s Best” Halloween Attractions for 2013.  WARNING: These are not for the faint of heart!

Spooky Empire's Ultimate Horror Weekend (Orlando, Florida)

Spooky Empire is a horror convention that takes place in Orlando, FL every October.  With the likelihood of being surrounded by such horror icons as George A. Romero, John Carpenter, Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Bruce Campbell and Elvira, the convention can feel like a three-day Halloween party full of treats.

 

Markoff’s Haunted Forest (Calleva Farm in Dickerson, Maryland)

Ask anyone in the Washington, D.C. area for a Halloween pick, and they will be directed to Markoff’s Haunted Forest, where visitors have been enjoying thrills for over 20 years.  Haunted hayrides, zombie hunts and a walk through the “Not-So-Fun House Maze” are just a few ways the creepy adventure will unfold.  

 

Salem Haunted Happenings (Salem, Massachusetts)

Salem’s notorious history is an indescribably tangible addition to any one of the town’s attractions for history and Halloween enthusiasts alike.  The Halloween spirit ramps up as the date nears with everything from Count Orlok’s Nightmare Gallery to tours of the Salem Witch Museum.

 

Twin Cities’ Zombie Pub Crawl (Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota)

Whether it’s to support a charitable cause or simply for fun, zombie crawls are organized for the public to dress as zombies and gather together.  There are zombie crawls held all over America.  The largest one in 2012 was held in the Twin Cities with an estimated 30,000 in attendance, making it the largest gathering of zombies according to Guinness World Records. 

 

KC West Bottoms Haunted Houses (Kansas City, Missouri)

The West Bottoms area is made up of several late 19th-century buildings that were seemingly made to be haunted houses!  This “village of the damned” has four epic haunts:  The Beast, The Chambers of Edgar Allan Poe, The Edge of Hell and Macabre Cinema.  Added attractions include the world’s largest python and two terrifying multi-story “slides to hell.”

 

The Haunting of Lemp Brewery (St. Louis, Missouri)

The 100^th episode of “Ghost Adventures” was filmed around Lemp Brewery in St. Louis.  The building alone is considered quite creepy, and now that a haunted attraction has been built inside, it’s an absolute must-see.

 

Spooky World Presents Nightmare New England (Litchfield, New Hampshire)

There are a variety of haunted attractions offered at Spooky World with activities for all ages.  One popular offering for visitors is shooting zombies with paintball guns.

 

Eastern State Penitentiary – Terror Behind the Walls (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)

The abandoned Eastern State Penitentiary is one of the most well-known haunted locations in the country, and for six weeks every fall, “Terror Behind the Walls” transforms the prison into a massive haunted house.  For the first time in the event’s history, visitors will be confronted with a critical decision: should they explore the prison and watch the action, or should they mark themselves to truly interact with the denizens of the cellblocks?  Those who opt in for true interactivity may be grabbed, held back, sent into hidden passageways, removed from their group and even occasionally incorporated into the show.

 

 

Travel Channel's Toy Hunter Is on the Hunt for Partridge Family

Jordan is hunting for rare Partridge Family toys to impress Danny Bonaduce. After seeing a picture of Danny riding a unicycle on the set of The Partridge Family, Jordan goes out on a limb and purchases one in hopes of wow-ing him.

Travel Channel's Toy Hunter Jordan Hembrough has been on the hunt for rare toys in this second season once again, but this time for many familiar celebrities that we grew up loving. On Wednesday, May 8th at 9pm Eastern, Travel Channel will feature this new episode of Toy Hunter. 

Travel Channel's Toy Hunter Returns for Second Season on Wednesday, April 10th

In the second season of "Toy Hunter," it's all about the search for pop culture memorabilia and the many adventures of acclaimed toy expert Jordan Hembrough as he continues his cross-country quest of buying and selling those rare collectibles hiding in attics and basements.  With a special one-hour season premiere featuring back-to-back episodes on Wednesday, April 10 at 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. ET/PT, everything is bigger this time –  the stakes, the clients and the money!  Special celebrity appearances include KISS frontman Gene Simmons, Danny Bonaduce (“The Partridge Family"), Norman Reedus ("Walking Dead") and Butch Patrick ("The Munsters").

Hembrough is approached by his biggest client to date – Gene Simmons of KISS.  He's tasked Hembrough with finding the rarest of rare KISS memorabilia to add to his collection…which he's been working on for 40 years!  Hembrough must search high and low to find items that Simmons doesn't already own.  

“Toy Lovers” 9:30PM ET/PT

Hembrough and his business partner Steve Savino travel to Virginia in search of some valuable toys to add to their inventories.  After a costly bet is made between the two toy collectors, the hunt begins from storage units to staircases.  A $300 Foghorn Leghorn Bobblehead and rare Blythe doll put one collector in the lead…until a $900 play-set is found.

Meeting Travel Channel's Toy Hunter Jordan Hembrough at WonderCon Anaheim 2013

Being a huge toy collector of many things from Star Wars, Marvel, Harry Potter, the Lord of the Rings, and so much more, we have been waiting for a show to feature toys or collecting. Last January 2012 would finally give us a program that would feature toys, originally called Toy Hunters 

(now called Toy Hunter) hosted by Jordan Hembrough. When we got the news of a pilot episode airing on the Travel Channel, we immediately shared the news. We would soon get to chat with, email, and Interview Jordan Hembrough about the hopes of a new series for toy collectors and fans. 

WonderCon Anaheim 2013 was this past weekend and we were there for to see and meet some of our favorite artists, writers, and creators in comics and amazing panels and exhibitors. One surprise was that we would finally get to meet Jordan Hembrough in person. It has been over a year talking on the phone, emailing, or interviewing, but this time face to face. 

Jordan Hembrough was actually doing some filming for Travel Channel's Toy Hunter at WonderCon, which was pretty awesome. As we were talking awhile, I would see a surprise guest coming to his Hollywood Heroes booth, Peter Mayhew (Yes, the real Chewbacca!!). 

Just as you see Toy Hunter on television, Hollywood Heroes had a very impressive booth filled with hundreds of vintage toys that I drooled over and remembering having as a kid. Ok, I actually still may have a lot of this in the collection.

WonderCon Anaheim 2013 was amazing once again! Last year was terrific, but this year was seriously bigger and much more crowded with many geeks, nerds, and fans. Thank to Jordan Hembrough for taking the time to chat for a bit. We will see the return of Travel Channel's Toy Hunter next week on April 10th.

A BATMAN BIRTHDAY: Toy and collectibles expert Jordan Hembrough follows a beatdown south to Mississippi, where he’s out on a quest for the perfect Batman birthday gift. He’llhaggle his way from Batcave to Batcave on his search for the right toy at the right price, butwith his reputation as the “go-to” guy and his friend’s surprise birthday party at risk of beingruined, he’ll need the help of numerous sidekicks to come out on top.

BIG TEXAS SEARCH: After being hired by one of the biggest
toy auction houses in New Jersey to help them find something for their monthly live auction, Jordan heads out to find an item he thinks will be a sure fire success. Knowing that he needs something big, he travels to Texas, where he hopes to find bigger collections, bigger personalities, and bigger payoffs.

CHILLER: Chiller, one of the largest conventions on the east coast for “all things horror,” is

just a few weeks away and Jordan needs that one ultimate find that will bring in a major sale atthe expo. He has to dig around the Garden State for something that will make even the biggesthorror fan shriek with delight.

COAST-TO-COAST MISSION: Jordan heads to L.A. to meet two bigwigs in the toy

industry who send him out on the hunt for their next “big ticket” items. Finding “wow” factor toysis Jordan’s specialty, and since these two clients are willing to pay top dollar, Jordan must liveup to his title. He’ll literally need to claw through toys on his hands and knees – and all over thecountry – to find what they want, but if the Toy Gods are working in Jordan’s favor, he’ll be ableto make some major flips. Special Guest: Expert designer/sculptor Jordu Schell from TravelChannel’s “Making Monsters.”

KOOKY, KITSCH, KRAZY: A desperate small business owner reaches out to Jordanhoping that his “in the know” knowledge will help her find the items she needs to get herbusiness booming again. Jordan travels to California, where he’s apprehensive about huntingin unchartered territory, but with the fate of his new client’s business in his hands, he knows hehas to deliver the vintage nostalgic pop toys that buyers really want.

RISE FROM THE ASHLAND: Jordan journeys to North Carolina - the epicenter ofantiques and collectibles. He travels to Bryson City, Asheville, and Charlotte, and meets somegreat people along the way. These folks drive hard bargains, but Jordan is willing to put in thework – and dig through the trash – to make sure he finds toy gold.

THE JEDI-SHORE: Jordan takes a trip to the Jersey Shore where he’s been recruited for a

double mission: to find a big and exclusive Star Wars collectible, and to bring a family traditionof toy collecting back from the brink of death. Jordan will need to find a piece exciting enoughto inspire a pair of particular kids or this family’s tradition of toy collecting will meet the samefate as Obi-Wan Kenobi.

TOY HEAVEN: In Cincinnati, Jordan finds himself overwhelmed by the power of the place

they call “toy heaven.” First, he stumbles upon a collector with over a half million dollars of rarecollectibles in his barn—and he’s having an everything-must-go sale. Then, he finds himselfsifting through a basement with over 3000 Jurassic Park rarities, including what he has deemedthe Jurassic Park holy grail, but Jordan will have to use his best powers of negotiation to makesure this flip is worth the trip.

 We are definitely looking forward to the premiere and are looking forward to seeing what treasures Jordan will find in his adventures. Toy collectors and enthusiasts will want to see this show! In the pilot episode, Jordan would meet previous employees of various toy companies who have been storing very rare toys that only were told in legend, but finally be revealed such as the Thundercats The Mad Bubbler and the ever popular Star Wars Rocket Firing Boba Fett. To think this was just the pilot episode, we are looking forward to a full season of seeing what can still be found out there.

Travel Channel's Toy Hunter Series Premieres August 15th

We had a great surprise waiting for us in the mail with a bright and shiny red envelope after returning from San Diego Comic Con.The envelope was from Travel Channel and we were anxious to see what was inside. We received a press kit for Travel Channel's new series, Toy Hunter who is hosted by Jordan Hembrough.

Inside the envelope would contain a very cool folder that was designed like an action figure that would be perfectly fitting for the show. We were fortunate to follow Jordan Hembrough when we first learned about the pilot episode being televised on the Travel Channel in January and we loved it. We did interview Jordan Hembrough asking him about Toy Hunters and we wanted to know a little bit about him.Great news would soon follow in February that Travel Channel would be bringing Toy Hunters to life as a new series this Fall!

Definitely loved the design of the press kit for Toy Hunter! Toy Hunter will be premiering next month, Wednesday, August 15th on the Travel Channel at 10pm ET/PT.

Toy Hunters Has Been Given Greenlight on the Travel Channel

Travel Channel has greenlit two new original unscripted series and announces the development of two original travel series to complement the Network’s robust programming slate for 2012.   New series include “Adam Richman’s Best Sandwich in America” (wt), featuring popular host and “comfort food czar” Richman as he travels from coast to coast on his personal quest to find the BEST sandwiches made in the U.S.A., and “Toy Hunters,” showcasing toy collector Jordan Hembrough, as he searches throughout the country for the rarest toys and turns them into big profit.

“Toy Hunters” will be a weekly half-hour series which follows toy and collectibles dealer Jordan Hembrough as he scours the country for hidden treasures to sell to his buyers around the world.  Originally a special that aired on the Network last month, this original series centers on Hembrough and his quest to claim the status as the ultimate toy collector.  In each of the twelve episodes, Hembrough travels from city to city strategically maneuvering around reluctant sellers, abating budgets and avoiding unforeseen roadblocks.  For this toy hunter, poking through cramped attics and rummaging around dirty garages to score rare vintage items is all in a day’s work.  “Toy Hunters” will be produced by Sharp Entertainment with Travel Channel’s Stone Roberts as executive producer.

When we heard the news that Toy Hunters was being given a series on the Travel Channel, we were very excited. We have been following the status of Toy Hunters from the very beginning and we were able to keep in contact with Jordan Hembrough through the whole process. We just want to congratulate Jordan and look forward to what is to come of the series.

Encore Presentation of Toy Hunters on the Travel Channel Today!!

 Toy Hunters premiered on Sunday, January 15th on the Travel Channel and it was terrific. This was a pilot episode of the show, which we hope gets a chance at a series. I am a toy collector and huge Star Wars fan. I think it is time we get a show for us and about us! Jordan Hembrough and his crew found an original Kenner Star Wars Rocket-firing Boba Fett for goodness sakes!! Aren't you curious to see what else people are willing to share? What other prototypes are out there that were never produced? Maybe Jordan Hembrough can showcase toy collectors collections to see what they may have as hidden gems. 

Travel Channel is having an encore presentation of Toy Hunters pilot episode today. Please check your local cable network for times because they may vary in locations. I am here in Arizona and it is going to be re-aired at 4pm, so eastern time may be on at 6pm. Showing an encore is awesome because maybe Travel Channel is wanting to make sure this show has a good following and that we want a series. Let's make it happen! Interview with Toy Hunters' Jordan Hembrough

Toy Hunters is a new show that premieres this Sunday, January 15th on the Travel Channel. Finally, a show for toy collectors!!! We need this show to get viewers so the series may continue. Why not get a show that helps bring back our childhoods by seeing Jordan Hembrough and his team hunting for the rarest toys ever made. 

We had the opportunity to interview Jordan Hembrough. We wanted to know a little bit about the show and why it is important to get the word out about the show. 

Angry Koala Gear:   1)  Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Jordan Hembrough:   I'm just like everyone else in this hobby... a total fanboy. I love anything Geeky or Nerdy and am a die hard Star Wars fan. I grew up in the 70's, so the retro feel to the toys is still my favorite. The old cliche is true... "they dont make them like they used to."  

Angry Koala Gear:   2) What is the most unique toy you have ever found? 

Jordan Hembrough:   That's a tough one, we have come across so many. I think some of the most unique ones are the ones I have found that were a bit "before my time."  About 15 years ago I was at a toy show in PA and came across an old "Lost in Space" Switch N Go playset from Mattel. The box was really great, and the toy and playset were just all around... cool!  It was from 1966.  I actually kept it in my office for about two years.. I loved it. 

Angry Koala Gear:   3)  In your opinion, what is the "holy grail" for toy collectors? 

Jordan Hembrough:   Wow, there are so many. I think in every collecting circle there is a "Holy Grail." It's also something very personal to the collector, it unique. That's what I love so much about this hobby. One person may be looking for something that they consider important, while another may think of something completely different. 

I remember years ago having a rare Star Wars Vinyl Cape Jawa at my booth for the New York Comic Con. I recall two collectors coming up and one saying "That's my uitimate piece. It's my holy grail!." The second collector just kind of looked at him with this expressionless look on his face. To him, it was just another figure... he wanted something else entirely.  Everyone has their own personal take on what's important to them. Every collection is special, every one unique.

Angry Koala Gear:   4) Can you tell us how Toy Hunters came about? 

Jordan Hembrough:  Toy Hunters is produced by SHARP Entertainment. They are the talented folks who brought you “Man V Food, Extreme Couponing, and Bert the Conqueror.” If you really want to amp up your Geek factor... they also do "Pumpkin Chunkin", which is simply brilliant.

They contacted me last February and told me about the concept. I was hooked from the first meeting. It's rare in this business when you find someone who you can both logistically and creatively work with. SHARP is based in New York, and they are a wonderful group of people who believe in the project. It was a perfect coupling. It's been a long process, but ultimately the end result is worth it.

The show is wonderful... much more than anyone first realized it could be. Travel Channel picked up the show as a pilot to see how it would do. If it does well, I am hoping they invest in a series.

 Angry Koala Gear:   Final Question)  What do you want the viewers to know about the show? 

Jordan Hembrough:   WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT. That's the most important thing. We have a chance to create something totally new and unique with this show... but we need people watching the pilot. The key thing to remember is... DVRs and Records don't count towards ratings. 

 We need LIVE VIEWERS. I tell everyone I want to see "asses in seats," because that's what its going to take to get this to series. So please.. tell your friends, TWEET about it.. Facebook about it. Everything you can do. We're hoping for about 300,000 people to watch the show... so let's get started networking now!  ")

Travel Channel's Toy Hunters Premieres Sunday, January 15th

If you enjoy watching shows like Auction Hunters, American Pickers, Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, then you will need to watch Toy Hunters which will Premiere on Travel Channel next Sunday. We had a chance to chat with the creator and host of the show Jordan Hembrough and I think it is finally about time toy collectors get a show. We need this show to air and he needs viewers!

We are always on the hunt for the best of the best in toys, which may include prototypes, those super rare pieces, production pieces that had to be changed for safety reasons, or those last couple of pieces that the stores did not order enough of. Toy Hunters is that show and Jordan Hembrough and his team are in search of these rare, desirable toys as everyone is in search of. Jordan and his team travel throughout the nation in search of the toys we loved playing with as kids and maybe still play with now, no matter how old we are! We are very excited for this show and can not wait to see what the Toy Hunters will find.

We have been waiting for a television show just like this for along time now. I guess it would be only a matter of time, right? We love watching shows like American Pickers, Pawn Stars, and Storage Wars, I guess for the element of surprise of what people can find out there. Most of the time, the items that are on these shows may not be what we collect, but they are still great. Toy Hunters will definitely be the show we want to see as toy collectors. I am very excited to see what Hembrough and his crew will find in the Premiere of Toy Hunters on Sunday, January 15th. If you are a toy collector, we need to unite and watch the premiere for something we love and believe in!
