3CoconutMonkey Booth at DesignerCon DCon 2014

We have known 3CoconutMonkey for awhile now and it is always great to hang out with them at different cons and shows we see them at. We actually had the great opportunity of teaming up with them at the very first Comikaze Expo, known as Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo to create a Custom Toy Art Show Contest using their Yo! figure. It was definitely a fun experience for us, which we had a blast doing. It has definitely been great seeing what they have been creating over these past years.

Here are some of the very cool Yo! customs that various artists have created using the Yo! DIY platform.

Great Yo! Freddy Krueger diorama by Jackorama. We had the privilege of having Jackorama do a custom diorama with our own Obscure's From the Mind of Madness series pieces.

3CoconutMonkey was able to team up with the man, legend, Stan Lee himself to create and produce the Chibi Stan Vinyl Figure.

Edgar Pasten (3CoconutMonkey) hopes to develop a smaller scale Chibi Stan figure in the near future. It is a very cool piece!

It was great to see Edgar Pasten of 3CoconutMonkey once again and will definitely catch him in the next show.

Winning... at Designer Con 2012!!!

Angry Koala Gear experienced our first visit to Designer Con this year.  We did not have the chance to attend as fans or press in previous years, but decided to go all out and get our own booth this year.  Some really cool things happened during Designer Con.  I won third place in 3coconutmonkey.com’s custom toy contest, with my custom Yo! figure, “Yo!Thulhu.”  Winning third place was awesome, especially with the stiff competition that entered.  Aside from customizing the figure, I also created a base, which featured some ocean cliffs, waves crashing against the rocks, and a sacrifice to Yo!Thulhu.  It was the second custom contest that I've entered and the first that I have placed.  So all-in-all, I am proud of myself.

Took home 3rd Place!
As Designer Con came to a close, I won a Hell Lotus figure in the very last raffle at the Spanky Stokes booth.  Thank you to Spanky Stokes!!!  I was manning the Angry Koala Gear booth at the time, and they waited for me to claim my prize.  I ran to claim the prize, while some people booed me.  It was funny, and I really appreciate them waiting for me, thanks to my brothers, Danny and Charles.

Hell Lotus... Thanks to Spanky Stokes!
As we began to break down our booth, I spotted J*Ryu (aka Purdy Supremacy of the Army of Snipers) walking and talking with the Suck Lord.  J*Ryu is by far, one of my favorite artists and I had to take the opportunity to talk with him.  Turns out, J*Ryu is a super cool and humble guy.  We took a picture and chatted for a couple of minutes.  P.S. He also introduced me to Mr. Luke Chueh… also a cool guy.  J*Ryu told me that one of his goals for the coming year is to focus on his craft.  He said he wouldn’t be committing to very many projects, so he has a lot of time to focus on his work and possibly exploring the world of art, outside of toys.  I don’t know about you, but I am excited to see what comes from J*Ryu in 2013.  If you want to learn more about J*Ryu and stay up-to-date on what he is working on, check out his website

3CoconutMonkey DesignerCon Contest

DesignerCon 2012 was this past Saturday, November 3rd and it was an amazing con. This was the first time that we have attended DesignerCon and it was incredible. We had the opportunity to meet many of our favorite artists and see their unbelievable creations. 3CoconutMonkey who are the creators of the Yo! and Boner vinyl figures hosted a custom vinyl contest and Angry Koala Gear's Matt Perez created a piece for the contest, Yo!thulu. We were fortunate to co-sponsor the Shock and Awesome Custom Vinyl Toy contest at Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo who had great pieces and entries, but this time Matt Perez wanted to give it a try. This would actually be his very first contest and he was glad to participate in the event.

The Yo!thulu was created from the Yo! figure and Matt Perez wanted to of course create H.P. Lovecraft's famous creature, the Cthulhu. He used Super Sculpey to create this awesome piece. He not only created the Yo!thulu, but also wanted to create a special base to show a little character being sacrificed to this creature.

There were many incredible entries for the contest!

There were amazing entries in the 3CoconutMonkey D-Con Contest as we said and we were honored to have the Yo!thulu in the event. Being a co-sponsor and judges in the Shock and Awesome Custom Vinyl Toy contest at Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo was an incredible experience, but this time was great to see one of our own pieces in a contest.

At the end of the day the results would be in for the winners of the D-Con contest and Angry Koala Gear's Matt Perez would get 3rd Place with his Yo!thulu custom figure.  We want to congratulate Matt Perez!

The 2nd Place winner was the Skull Goyle custom Boner figure created by Skully (Dana Ingles). It was a pretty amazing piece. We heard that this would be their first time creating a custom for a contest. Congratulations to Skully (Dana Ingles)!

The Grand Prize winner was David Zajdman with this awesome Bull Dog custom from the Boner figure. Congratulations to David!

The 3CoconutMonkey D-Con contest was terrific and we loved the entries! We do hope to collaborate again in the future with other contests.
