Boom Studios' Fanboys Vs. Zombies #9 Gets a New Writer with Shane Houghton

Peanuts #1 is Coming this January 2012 from Boom! Studios

Happiness is a monthly comic book series, Charlie Brown! PEANUTS debuted at BOOM! Studios' all-ages imprint KABOOM! this past spring with the first PEANUTS graphic novel HAPPINESS IS A WARM BLANKET, CHARLIE BROWN. Now, thanks to a partnership with Peanuts Worldwide, Snoopy and the gang are back in a monthly comic book series with issue #1 coming this January! With the special #0 issue in stores right now — offered for only a buck — issue #1 kicks off this ongoing series with new original stories seen for the first time alongside fan favorite classic PEANUTS SUNDAY strips.

PEANUTS #1 is written and drawn by Charles Schulz with additional stories by Vicki Scott, Paige Braddock, Shane Houghton and Matt Whitlock. This title ships in January with a Charles Schulz cover, featuring a price point of $3.99 with a Diamond Code of NOV110837.

The Angry Koala Gear crew are fans of Charles Schulz' Peanuts and we probably will always be fans of his great works. Going into 2012 will be great for the Peanuts because there will be a team of creative writers to continue classic tales of the famous group of children, along with that famous black and white dog, Snoopy, and his sidekick, Woodstock.

Improv Comics Panel with Shane and Chris Houghton at the Comikaze Expo

Do panels have to have a set of rules? We have attended quite a few panels and most usually have a head table with a moderator and the guest panelists. Most of the time, the moderator provides a set of questions and then if time is permitted, the audience will ask a few questions. Comikaze Expo created a new set of rules for panels and I was lucky to attend the Improv Comics Panel with Shane and Chris Houghton, the creators of Reed Gunther from Image Comics. If you have had the chance to read Reed Gunther, you know that these two are fun, creative guys.

This panel was fun because it required great audience participation to help create a comic from start to finish. There was not going to be that normal head table with the two brothers sitting behind it, but rather Shane and Chris standing the whole time to create a comic about a cat named, Bodunkles and a dog named, Pug T. Fist. Of course, the story seems to stand true where cats do not get along with dogs, especially a cat that can time travel in the kitty litter? Yeah, you heard it correct, this cat was not your ordinary feline! This was great fun because of the interaction with the audience and with Shane and Chris. They helped to create a comic together.

Reed Gunther Vol. 1 TP from Image Comics

Reed Gunther is a very fun series, which is filled with great humor and reminds us of those classic cartoons we grew up to, except that this one involves a bear-riding cowboy! We need a series that allows us to laugh and not always need a serious side. We have enjoyed this series from the beginning of joining Image Comics in full color. The Houghton brothers have done this series right! Here is one of our first posts and reviews of Reed Gunther. We also were lucky to win a contest for the Wanted Poster Contest.

The wild west adventures of Reed Gunther, Sterling, Starla, and all of Shane and Chris Houghton's colorful characters will be gathered together into their first trade paperback from Image Comics this November with the arrival of Shane and Chris Houghton's REED GUNTHER, VOL. 1 TP. This colorful collection of excitement, friendship, and adventure is guaranteed to be fun for folks of all ages!
Scores of comics industry professionals have been won over by REED GUNTHER's many charms, leading to the inclusion of some incredible extra material, such as pin-ups by the likes of Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo), Robb Mommaerts (Shrek), and Guy Davis (Nevermen, B.P.R.D., Judge Dredd). The collection also features a foreward written by Davis, in which he explained the appeal of REED GUNTHER: "Aside from having monsters in it (and I do love monster tales), the book, at the heart of it, is just plain fun!"

In REED GUNTHER, VOL. 1 TP, our hero Reed Gunther and his trusty grizzly bear steed will bumble their way through the wild west, fighting giant snakes, hoards of mole creatures, a resurrected John Henry zombie, freak show freaks, special government agents, and all sorts of wild monsters created by an ancient mysterious idol!

REED GUNTHER, VOL. 1 TP (SEP110428, ISBN: 978-1-60706-462-6),  184-page full-color all-ages western comedy adventure for $14.99, will come galloping full speed into a store near you on November 9. For more information on Reed Gunther, Sterling, and all their unruly friends and foes, visit www.reedgunther.com.

Reed Gunther is a very fun series, which is filled with great humor and reminds us of those classic cartoons we grew up to, except that this one involves a bear-riding cowboy! We need a series that allows us to laugh and not always need a serious side.

Reed Gunther #1 and The Steak Snacking Snake! Review

Shane and Chris Houghton's Reed Gunther #1 and the Steak Snacking Snake from Image Comics will be released tomorrow, Wednesday, June 1st in a comic shop near you. Reed Gunther is an all-ages comic created by brothers Shane (writer) and Chris Houghton (artist), which follows a funny bear riding cowboy through the Old West.

Shane and Chris Houghton are the creators of Reed Gunther and have been publishing the book on their own. The original stories such as Reed Gunther #1 were once released and still available on their website, but the pages will be in black and white. Image Comics will bring the great Reed Gunther stories in color.

Reed Gunther is a goofy cowboy who travels with his sidekick, Sterling (a bear). Sterling is well mannered and allows Reed to ride him. In Reed Gunther and the Steak Snacking Snake, Reed is with his pal Sterling resting under the moonlight in the desert, which reminds me of home with the Saguaros. Reed appears to be a very friendly, carefree person, which sometimes gets people into trouble. The story begins with Reed and Sterling resting under the moonlight and he becomes memorized with the silhouette of a young woman. The young woman, Starla owns cattle on her ranch that are mysteriously disappearing and she does not need these two messing with her cattle. Of course, she becomes startled with seeing a bear that may be the accomplice of taking her cattle. Reed is a gentleman and says he can help. Reed Gunther is not your average hero, which turns out to be not so bright, but we will soon see who the true heroes are in this adventure. There needs to be a villain in an adventure and it turns out to be an extremely large cow-eating rattle snake (again reminds me of home in the great Southwest).

Reed Gunther WANTED Poster Contest

And the Winner Is…

Hey Folks!
You may remember the Reed Gunther WANTED Poster Contest where we asked you the fans to hang a WANTED ad for Reed is your local shop for a chance to win a page of original art from Reed Gunther #1! We received some really awesome photos from some very enthusiastic fans and we appreciate everyone’s entry and help on spreading the word about Reed! (in stores this Wednesday, June 1st!)
Chris and I were going to randomly pull the winner’s name out of a hat, but we couldn’t find any hats around so we came up with something way more awesome. I threw slips of paper with everyone’s names into the air and Chris had to snatch the winner out of mid-air!
Contest
Chris’ agile little drawin’ fingers came through and snagged this winner!
Winner
You did it CHARLES PEREZ!
