Those are the sounds I made when I found out Felicia Day was going to be at Stan Lee's Comikaze. You read that right, the creator of The Guild is going to be in Los Angeles making an appearance at Stan Lee's Comikaze.
I need you to hold on to your capes because Felicia Day aka Codex isn't showing up alone. The whole cast of the The Guild will be there. This includes The Guild Producer, Kim Evey, Vincent Caso (BLADEZZ), Jeff Lewis (Vork), Amy Okuda (Tinkerballa), Sandeep Parikh (Zaboo), and Robin Thorsen (Clara).

San Diego Comic Con 2012 is nearly upon us! We are getting the gear together and the scheduling down for the panels, meeting the guests, setting up interviews, which exclusives to buy, and having some fun at parties. We have attended San Diego Comic Con for quite a few years now, but until last year, we never attended the SDCC parties. Thanks to Comikaze Expo who began their venture into a new Pop Culture convention last year, we were able to attend their amazing party. Comikaze Expo knows how to throw a party, which had many great surprise guests that came through. Being huge Guild fans, we had the chance to meet some of the cast members, Doug Jones, Rick Fox, and of course, Mr. Stan Lee.
Comikaze Expo was created by Regina Carpinelli, and siblings Fabiano and Mario Carpinelli who grew up in the Pop Culture world and are fans of comics, horror, sci-fi, anime, and gaming. Comikaze Expo was created because Los Angeles needed a convention for nerds, geeks, pop culture fans like us. There have been many conventions in the LA area, but they never were able to have the large scale like San Diego Comic Con. Many artists, writers, and creators live in the Los Angeles area and I always have wondered why this could never happen. Thanks to the creation of Comikaze Expo, 2011 would change that with the Invasion in Los Angeles, where over 35,000 attendees would create something new and create history. Stan Lee and Elvira, Cassandra Peterson, would be a huge presence at Comikaze Expo and draw many fans to their booths. Both superstars would now help Comikaze Expo forever in becoming something even larger and it is now known as Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo!
2011 was a great year with the big Comikaze Expo party at SDCC, and 2012 will be even more promising and exciting with Stan Lee's Comikaze presenting: Totally Geektastic 80's Dance Party.
Last year was just the first year, so I can only imagine the second being even bigger! We wonder who will be walking through the doors as surprise celebrity guests?
Stan Lee and his Comikaze Crew do not enjoy doing things without the fans! This year, instead of being like all those snobby industry parties at Comic-Con, we are shaking things up and EVERYONE IS INVITED!

The Angry Koala Gear crew is definitely looking forward to this party. 80's music?? May show for our age, but we grew up in the 80's, which was an amazing decade in music, dance, and entertainment. I am a huge fan of hip hop and I am thankful for growing up in the beginning of it with the graffiti, music, dj's, break dancing and pop locking and even the movies (of course, I wish a few of them would be remade to give them a little better acting). This was the time of new wave music and why not celebrate with Smart Patrol who will "Whip It Good". The party goes live with the World Famous Beat Junkies spinning!! There is going to be a break dancing competition, which I wish I could still do, but the age has caught up to me on being flexible. I do hear though that I still have some pop locking skills (Mr. DJ, please play some Planet Rock). One of the artists I loved hearing during the break dancing days is one of the originators, Egyptian Lover. When I heard he was coming through, the childhood memories kicked in.
Egyptian Lover will definitely get the party jumping with Egypt Egypt, I Need a Freak, And My Beat Goes Boom, and many more. Looking forward to hearing who else may be coming through as the musical guests! I will definitely be dusting off the Adidas and I wonder if I can bring my cardboard with me.
One of our favorite things about attending comic cons of course is the cosplayers in their amazing creativity of designing their costumes. We will be looking forward to the Costume Contest. Zenescope Entertainment is also coming through with premiering their New Grimm Fairy Tales Animated series videos! We had the opportunity to attend the panel at Wondercon, where Zenescope would present the Kickstarter that would launch this project and bring the Grimm Fairy Tales Animated series to life!
We are excited and ready for San Diego Comic Con 2012 and we definitely look forward to seeing and meeting you at Stan Lee's Comikaze: Totally Geektastic 80's Dance Party.

Dark Horse Comics participates each year and always give us something to look foreward to and May 5th wil be no exception. There will be two free comics to look forward to, both featuring two of our favorites, The Guild and Star Wars.
Free Comic Book Day: Buffy/The Guild
Buffy has never needed a vacation so badly as she does now—with the world overrun with zompires and other fallout from Season 8. Luckily, Spike has got the perfect solution: a “spacecation”! Having lost their regular real-life meeting place, the Guildies are having a little trouble finding a new location they can all agree on. A little in-game battle becomes the deciding factor, and the circle follows the decree of the winner: the beach?!

Popular fine artist/children’s book author Adam Rex will be in-store from 10am-3pm, signing (FREE!) copies of The Guild--The Dark Horse comic based on the popular web show of the same name, created by writer/actress Felicia Day (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog)--which he painted the cover for.
We have been fortunate to attend some great comic conventions and expos for sometime now and continue to try new ones whenever we get the opportunity. We had the opportunity to attend theLong Beach Comic Expo last year and we had a lot of fun. Not only did we get the chance to see some of our favorite comic creators, writers, and artists, but also were extras in our favorite web series, The Guild! The Guild cast and crew decided to film their fifth season at the Long Beach Comic Expo and it was fun to be part of it even if you could only see us for a couple of seconds in a couple of scenes. 2012 looks to be another promising year for the Long Beach Comic Expo and we will definitely be attending.

We are beginning to recover from all the excitement and fun we had from WonderCon this past weekend. We had a blast and we were able to add another con to our list of attending. There were many familiar companies in attendance such as Marvel, DC Comics, Aspen Comics, IDW Publishing, and so many more. A company that has come in with a storm is Cryptozoic Entertainment. They are known for their great card games in World of Warcraft, The Walking Dead, and now Locke and Key.
Locke and Key is an Eisner Award winning series written by Joe Hill. Locke and Key is the newest addition to Cryptozoic Entertainment's card games.
The Locke and Key card game designer, Matt Hyra was at the Cryptozoic Entertainment booth offering great lessons on how to play the game. After our demo, we were sold and had to buy a set. What could not make it better than to have Matt Hyra sign it and to have Joe Hill sign it himself!
Cryptozoic Entertainment is creating some amazing card games right now and also producing some great trading cards in very, very popular series such as Big Bang Theory, The Guild, and The Walking Dead. We had a great chat with the staff that shared some awesome news about The Walking Dead series. She mentioned that there was going to be a trade of a one of the kind redemption card that one lucky individual drew from his Walking Dead boxes. There are only two special redemption cards in all of the cases available, which are for a whole sheriff patch card of Shane and Rick from the AMC's The Walking Dead uniforms. We were fortunate to meet the lucky person and take a picture of this incredible card!! Just to let you know, the Rick Sheriff patch card still is out there and yet to be found.
Cryptozoic Entertainment had a great booth with great cards from some of our favorite series. We will have to be in the hunt for that one of a kind Rick patch card!
Free Comic Book Day is on Saturday, May 5, 2012. What a day for comic book fans because of all the incredible comics that are made available to us. One of them that we definitely are excited about is the Dark Horse Comics, The Guild, which is one of our favorite series.
FCBD recently had the opportunity to interview Felicia Day, who is the creator and writer of The Guild.
FCBD: Set your project up for those that might be new to your comic book. What can we expect to see in terms of story and art?
Felicia Day (FD): The Guild is web show I created about a group of online gamers and how they interact online and offline. The comics I've written in general explore the characters more in-depth than in the web series, but the FCBD issue is really a slice of life piece, out of time of the web series. It's something I haven't done before and I had a great time writing it!
FCBD: What has been your favorite part of book or character to tackle?
FD: The comics that have been my fave have been the ones that forced me to explore the more mysterious characters from my show. So the Tinkerballa one-shot was particularly great for me, and the upcoming Fawkes issue that I wrote with Wil Wheaton.
FCBD: Tell our readers why they should pick your book first on FCBD.
FD: I think my FCBD issue will be super fun for people who know the show, and the art is REALLY great, the panels just pop off the pages.
FCBD: What’s your favorite part about being able to work in comics?
FD: The freedom of not being beholden to budget in writing. For the web show, I can barely write a scene outside on a sidewalk because it costs too much to shoot, but I can write Codex in a car chase if I want to, my imagination is the only barrier to entry in the comic.
FCBD: Many newcomers will be picking up comics for the first time on FCBD—what was the first comic you remember reading?
FD: When I was a kid, like 6 years old, I remember I had a Bloom County scrapbook where I cut out the sunday comics I liked and pasted them into a master book. Utterly obsessed with Opus.
FCBD: Where will you be for this year’s FCBD? Do you have any annual FCBD traditions?
FD: I think I'll be signing at Golden Apple Comics in LA. I don't have any annual traditions, but maybe I'll make some this year!
FCBD: Looking to the future of the book, is there anything you can tease about what's coming?
FD: There's a Fawkes one-shot coming out later this year I wrote with Wil Wheaton which is GREAT. As for more comics, I'm working out what the plan is right now, but certainly it's on my radar to continue the series in comic form.

Dark Horse Free Comic Book Day 2012: Four great stories for the price of, well, none!
The San Diego Comic Con has always been the event we always attend because of how much we are fans of comics, toys, movies, and art. This year is even bigger for us because we launched our site earlier this year and have been busy with establishing connections with companies such as Image Comics, Marvel, Sideshow Collectibles, Gentle Giant, Dynamite Entertainment, DC, and so much more. We have been fortunate to provide new information to fans like us in comics, toys, and movies.
We enjoy attending Comic Cons and if we could we would attend each and every one of them. Growing up in Los Angeles, we have had our share in small conventions, but never a full on comic convention or pop culture convention. I guess 2011 will change that with the Comikaze Expo coming this November to the Los Angeles Convention Center. We have been fortunate enough to chat with one of the co-founders of Comikaze Expo and we are excited to be attending the first annual event this November 5th and 6th.
Day one of the San Diego Comic Con brought us not only a special treat in the event, but we were also invited to attend a party hosted by Comikaze Expo, Pow! Entertainment, Ghostship, and Geekscape. The party was held at the Bristol Hotel on the top floor. Because Pow! Entertainment was a host of the event, we were hoping to get a chance to see and meet Stan Lee and there he was! The guests went crazy as soon as he made his presence in the room. I had a great opportunity to shake his hand and say a quick hello. He was very kind and took many pictures with the guests and soon after a tall individual shows up and it is Rick Fox. We will have to say though besides meeting the great Mr. Stan Lee is that we got to also talk with Doug Jones and a few of The Guild cast. We are big fans of the series and we are even hoping that we made some of the scenes in Season 5 coming out very shortly. We were able to be part of the filming as extras of Season 5 at the Long Beach Comic Expo this past April.
