War of the Worlds: Goliath Wins Best Animated Film at 3D Festival

Tripod Entertainment's stereoscopic 3D animated movie War of the Worlds: Goliath caused a sensation when it won Best 3D Animated Feature at the Los Angeles 3D Film Festival in September.

The competition was fierce with contenders including Paranorman, Madagascar 3 and Tinker Bell: Secret of the Wings.  The festival drew approximately 15,000 attendees and is a key spot for distributors on the prowl to discover new films.

“The turnout and support for our film at the Festival was really gratifying." explained Director-Producer Joe Pearson and Co-Founder of Tripod Entertainment.  “Wherever Goliath screens it has been greeted by our enthusiastic and gracious fans. What else can a filmmaker ask for?  We had more people at our screening than some of the major film studios.”

The movie’s win at the festival also drew the attention of Avatar director James Cameron’s Cameron Pace Group, which held a special screening at 3D facility in Burbank, California shortly after the festival’s conclusion.

The Los Angeles 3D Film Festival award followed a highly successful showing at the recent San Diego Comic Con.  An on-going viral online campaign is also building a strong buzz worldwide.

The festival run for War of the Worlds: Goliath has now moved to the prestigious Sitges Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya in Spain, which is currently underway.  The movie has been selected to compete in the L’Animat category of this Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, often touted as the “Cannes Film Festival” for science-fiction and fantasy films.

War of the Worlds: Goliath is also prepping its nationwide theatrical release in Malaysia in November 15, 2012, presented in stereoscopic 3D, digital 2D and 35mm formats.

“The festival showings and strong market responses vindicate Tripod’s belief that likeminded creative and technical talents from anywhere in the world can overcome geographical and cultural barriers, join forces and do great work,” said Producer Leon Tan, Group CEO and Co-Founder of Tripod Entertainment.  “With the growing success of our War of the Worlds: Goliath, we hope that more Malaysian creative companies build international alliances and take on the global marketplace.  Come and join us in Kuala Lumpur on November 15!”
