Super 8 Movie Review

 Drew Struzan Poster

This will actually be the first Angry Koala Gear crew movie review, and what movie is more fitting then JJ Abram's Super 8. Super 8 will be out in theatres nationwide this Friday, June 10th. JJ Abrams is known for his great work in producing, writing, and directing many great shows for television and movies on the big screen such as Lost, Alias, Fringe, Cloverfield, Star Trek, and now Super 8. Super 8 not only is directed and written by JJ Abrams, but he also teamed up with the "Great" Steven Spielberg that produced the film.

I first seen the teaser trailer last year for Super 8 last summer during the Iron Man 2 previews. I remember watching the yellow truck driving by the railroad tracks and it reminded me very much of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The ending of the teaser left me speechless seeing something very strong trying to get out of that Air Force train car. Once I seen that trailer, I saw the names of JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg attached and knew this movie was going to be brilliant. Of course, there have been many more trailers leading up to the premiere of Super 8, and JJ Abrams keeps us in suspense wanting more and I think this is great. I do not enjoy movie trailers that basically give us the whole movie. I want mystery and I want to be able to see the movie with no idea what to expect.

Super 8 is set around a small town in Ohio and just like the trailers do show there is a group of young teens who are filming their own movie. The young actors do an awesome job in this film and they bring back some great memories of movies I enjoyed watching such as The Goonies, Stand By Me, and ET. The group sees an accident they were not supposed to see and maybe they filmed something they should not have, which is why the military becomes involved. I really want to keep this review simple and still keep it a mystery. Super 8 is a combination of The Goonies, Stand By Me, filled with some classic thrills and science fiction. If JJ Abrams wanted to say that this movie was actually done in the 80's with the other classics, I think many people would believe him. The only problem would be that they would be wondering where is Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, or River Phoenix?

Super 8 has it all, comedy, drama, mystery, science fiction, and more. (Star Wars in the background, that is all I have to say) I knew this was the movie that I wanted to truly see this summer and I am still sticking to my word. It was awesome! One more thing, why is it that utter silence in a movie always gets our heart rates up and I even think we stop breathing?

If you are not following @Super8Movie on twitter or on the official website, you may want to do so, because they just mentioned that there will be theatres releasing Super 8 tomorrow evening on Thursday, June 9th. Also, check out #super8secret on twitter and you may get some clues.
