Boom! Studios has been heavy at work with some great comics coming out such as Malignant Man, Armory Wars, and to be released tomorrow, April 27th, Planet of the Apes #1. If you are a Planet of the Apes fan, you will enjoy the new comic series by Boom! Studios. Planet of the Apes #1 does come out tomorrow and it already has been confirmed to be sold out, so make sure you do not forget to pick up your copy or copies of the great variant covers. This is sure to be a great year for Planet of the Apes fans because we will also be seeing the film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, on August 5th.
I will provide a little review of Boom! Studios, Planet of the Apes #1: The Long War Part 1. The comic was written by Daryl Gregory. The artwork was made by Carlos Magno who also provides the cover B of #1.
The story takes place in 2680A.D. We see an Ape, known as the Lawgiver sharing information with fellow Apes. He mentions that the last weapons of Humans are now put away and that Humans and Apes have lived peacefully for a long time now, and unfortunately is assassinated.
A search is on for the murderer and the Apes come to Southtown, known as Skintown to talk to the Mayor, Sullivan (human). Sullivan must travel to the City Tree to talk to Alaya (Ape), the Council Voice. There is much turmoil and blame and the Apes become concerned that a human is the murderer. A mysterious weapon is either unlocked or created and is a human weapon that has not existed for over 500 years.
I do not want to give too much away, but I really enjoyed the first issue and definitely will be picking up my issue tomorrow afternoon. The writing is great and has a story that flows wanting the reader to continue and then unfortunately it ends, until next time. The artwork is terrific and I feel that Carlos Magno is a perfect fit.
I did do an earlier post on Planet of the Apes, so check it out because I included a sneak peek of pages previously.
Here is also the Rise of the Planet of the Apes Trailer. Enjoy!
