Hasbro unveils the new Star Wars packaging for 2012

Starwars.com recently gave us a sneak peek of the new Hasbro Star Wars packaging for 2012. Star Wars fans should already know that George Lucas will be releasing the Star Wars Epic in 3D in 2012. 2011 already holds a huge year for Star Wars fans with the release of the Star Wars Original Trilogy and the Star Wars Prequels on Blu Ray in September. This May will also be an incredible year with the re-opening of Disney's Star Tours with an Star Wars Episode I special Pod Race feature. Is this why we are getting the opportunity to see Darth Maul back on the Star Wars line in 2012 for the release of The Phantom Menace in 3D next year?

The new packaging was created by the artist Chris Ford

"Chris Ford is the artist who created the Darth Maul painting for this year's packaging. Chris is an amazing painter and co-founder of Pilot, who manages our potent illustration team. In order to properly design line looks for boys entertainment, you must direct and work closely with artists who 'get it' when it comes to creating striking images for this genre. In this instance, he worked intimately with Pilot's own Greg Titus who completed dozens of pencil renderings. You may toss fifty pencils aside before you get the pose that hits the mark. In addition, whether it's the first rendition of a character or the millionth, the impeccable standards in which the team at Lucasfilm will direct the work will always be a key factor."
