While Star Wars Day, May the 4th Be With You has passed us for a week now, the Star Wars love will always continue for us. Star Wars Day would be extra special for the Angry Koala Gear crew because of the amazing news we would learn from Vans. Vans is that very company that brought us that famous line "Off the Wall" and the shoes we grew up wearing. What could be more fitting to grow up watching Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope at the Grauman's Chinese Theater in 1977 and wearing Vans throughout our lives and now to have them combined. It would only require over 35 years to make this California dream come true, but the Vans x Star Wars official line will be released this June 1st with many different styles of shoes, a clothing line, and even backpacks. In honor of this great collaboration, Vault by Vans would release a special "Opening Ceremony" like super limited run of less than 300 pairs of 6 different styles of Star Wars shoes. The 6 unique pairs of shoes would combine original Vans styles that would be brought out of the Vault and combine some Star Wars flavor.
The Vault by Vans x Star Wars shoes were released on Sunday, May 4th on Star Wars day through their Vans DQM General stores in New York and in Boston and a few other stores with very limited runs, especially since each style has less than 300 pairs worldwide. Some were also released on the Vans DQM online shop on May 4th and we were determined to be there for the release. With less than 300 pairs of each of the 6 styles being released and shared amongst their stores, we knew there would not be too many available online. The end result would be truly amazing for us as we were able to score two pairs of these super limited Star Wars x Vans last week and waited patiently until they would arrive.
Each of the "Opening Ceremony" Star Wars x Vans collectibles shoes came in a very cool box with a metallic finish all around.
Could Star Wars have ever been without Darth Vader? We were hoping to get a pair of the OG Half Cab LX Darth Vader, which combined the original Steve Caballero Vans shoes from 1992.
The OG Half Cab Darth Vader is definitely an awesome shoe which brings back memories of the original Steve Caballeros and his iconic logo of course with Lord Vader riding the skateboard.
The creativity in the OG Half Cab Darth Vader shoe is throughout the shoe down to the shoelaces with lightsabers at the ends.
The second pair we were fortunate to score were the OG Classic Slip-On LX Star Wars Miami AT-AT style.
The OG Classic Slip-On LX Star Wars Miami AT-AT style would bring back a classic from the 80's and combine the Miami print with AT-AT Walkers.
Each pair of this style are sure to be very unique because of the print as you can see for the front of this shoe above and the shoe below.
What could be more fitting, but to own a classic Vans slip-on and to have that famous "Off the Wall" logo on the back of the shoe. The OG Classic Slip-On LX Star Wars AT-AT is a style that may not be for everyone, but it gives a feel of California where both Vans and Star Wars began.
As an added bonus, we received very cool Vans x Star Wars keychains which replicated the OG Classic Slip-On Star Wars AT-AT in their own special boxes. We were already thrilled just to score the super limited shoes, but to now have a very unique collectible in itself with the keychains was tremendous.
