Dark Horse Comics Captain Midnight Will be here in Two Months

Dark Horse Comics series Captain Midnight will be here in 2 months!

Meet The Fifth Beatle at Dark Horse Comics

Ever since its announcement last fall, there has been buzz about THE FIFTH BEATLE. Written by multiple Tony Award–winning producer Vivek J. Tiwary (Green Day’s American Idiot, The Addams Family, Mel Brooks’s The Producers), The Fifth Beatle, chronicling the life of the Beatles’ manager, Brian Epstein, will officially be released on November 19.

The Fifth Beatle, from M Press Books, a division of Dark Horse Comics, recounts the untold true story of Brian Epstein, the visionary manager who discovered and guided the Beatles to unprecedented international stardom—yet died painfully lonely at the young age of thirty-two. More than merely the story of “The Man Who Made the Beatles,” The Fifth Beatle is an uplifting, tragic, and ultimately inspirational human story about the desire to leave behind a legacy, amidst the struggle to overcome crushing personal obstacles and insurmountable odds.

This marks the first full-length graphic novel painted by fanboy favorite Andrew C. Robinson (Dusty Star, King Conan, Starman, Superman). The book also features a special section paying homage to the 1960s Beatles cartoons, lovingly drawn by multiple Eisner and Harvey Award–winning cartoonist Kyle Baker (Why I Hate Saturn, Plastic Man, Nat Turner).

“Telling the Brian Epstein story is a true labor of love. The Fifth Beatle really is my life’s work—as I’ve been researching Brian’s life for more than half my own,” says Tiwary. “So it’s with great excitement and anticipation that I can finally share this little-known story about one of the great architects of modern pop culture with the rest of the world.”

Vivek J. Tiwary is also set to write and produce a feature-film adaptation of his graphic novel. Tiwary has signed a deal with Sony/ATV (who control the Lennon/McCartney music catalog) which gives him unprecedented access to Beatles songs for the film.

The standard hardcover edition will be available for $19.99 in an oversized library format. A collector’s-edition hardcover of this groundbreaking graphic novel will also be available, featuring a wraparound, textured cover and a section of bonus materials including Beatles and Brian Epstein memorabilia, artist sketches, and alternate covers, for $49.99.
The limited edition (1,500 copies) features a tip-in sheet signed by creators Vivek J. Tiwary, Andrew C. Robinson, and Kyle Baker, along with a twenty-four-page bonus section including rare Beatles and Brian Epstein memorabilia and behind-the-scenes sketches, a unique, textured cover, and a special slipcase, for $99.99.
Tiwary will be signing limited prints of The Fifth Beatle at BookExpo America in New York City this Saturday, June 8th at the Dark Horse booth #1003 at 11 a.m.

Additionally both Tiwary and artist Andrew Robinson will be delivering a panel presentation at HeroesCon in Charlotte, NC on June 9th titled:
Comics of the Fab Four: The Fifth Beatle and Beyond. The panel begins promptly at 11:30 a.m.
“The Beatles will be bigger than Elvis!”—Brian Epstein, 1961

Tiwary is represented by David Alpert and Lawrence Mattis at Circle of Confusion.

Dark Horse Comics Axe Cop Figures from Mezco Toys

He’s a cop…with an axe…he’s AXE COP!
He’s the best crime fighter the world has ever known thanks to his trusty axe, his pet T-rex, Wexter (with maching gun hands!) and a group of crime-fighting partners unlike any you’ve ever seen!
Axe Cop is the internet comic sensation based on a story a five year-old boy narrated to his twenty nine year old brother, who happens to be an illustrator. What began as a simple tale became an award-winning comic, and upcoming animated tv series on Fox, and now makes the leap to super cool collectible with Axe Cop 4inch Scale Figures Series 1!

Series 1 contains:
Axe Cop -The star of the show, with axe, poopsucker gun (to help him conquer Planet Poop), Uni Baby, and lemon grenade (all the explosive power of a regular grenade but with a lemony freshness).
Dr Doo Doo- One of Axe Cop’s many arch enemies, with Doo Doo soldier, and sword. Also includes clear stands to create the “hover” effect.
Avocado Soldier – Axe Cop’s metamorphosing partner, with flute, machine gun, and removable unicorn horn (for magic powers, of course).
Ethan Nicolle, the artist behind Axe Cop, says: “Mezco worked closely with us to make the toys faithful to the comics and to pick the fan favorites. Many of the toys look so much like my drawings in three dimensions it’s almost spooky…I’m excited to have Mezco making Axe Cop toys because they walk a great line between toys to look at and toys to play with. Axe Cop is for kids and adults and I think Mezco nails that market with their intricate but not-too-fragile designs. ”
All Mezco Axe Cop figures feature up to five points of articulation.
Each figure is individually packaged in a display friendly blister package covered with Axe cop artwork.
Look for Axe Cop Series 1 and Axe Cop Deluxe Figures at Toys”R”Us and other fine retailers!
Axe Cop chops his way into stores in October 2013.

Vampirella: Southern Gothic #1 from Dynamite Entertainment

By popular demand, Dynamite Entertainment is proud to expand their beloved VAMPIRELLA line with a new five-part miniseries, entitled VAMPIRELLA: SOUTHERN GOTHIC. A tale of dark magic and mystery set against a Mississippi backdrop, the series features the writing talent of Nate Cosby and illustrations by Jose Luis. The first issue will hit store shelves in August 2013, available in two cover editions: an art edition by Johnny Desjardins, and Subscription-Only photo variant featuring model Kitana Baker.

In VAMPIRELLA: SOUTHERN GOTHIC #1, the industry's most iconic horror heroine may not be prepared -- even after a lifetime of fighting vampires, aliens, magicians, and monsters -- for the evil that lurks on the shores of the Mississippi. As the story begins, Vampirella confronts a demon whose blue blade leaves her with a glowing, mystical wound. Heading to the Deep South to recover, she is reunited with an old flame... and finds herself drawn into a murder mystery thick with old time religion and blood, blood, blood.

"The South's my wheelhouse. I'm from Mississippi, and figured I'd bring the vampire down to my home," says writer Nate Cosby, whose critically-acclaimed recent works, COW BOY and JIM HENSON'S THE STORYTELLER, have been nominated for Eisner and Harvey Awards, respectively. "The South is a strange, beautiful, frustrating place. It wears some of its history like a chip on its shoulder, and it tucks other parts of history away. It's a good setting for the noir-ish potboiler I wanted to write."

While the SOUTHERN GOTHIC series stands on its own, completely accessible to new readers, Cosby assures that the tale will fit faithfully into the overall VAMPIRELLA mythos, as pioneered by many of the industry's top talent. "There's a surprising amount of great writers that have told VAMPIRELLA stories in the past. In prepping for this series, I read tales by Kurt Busiek, Grant Morrison, Mark Millar, and many others. What I liked was that they were all different takes on this fun, dark, sometimes-campy character. She's got a malleability that allows creators to take her central vampire conceit and spin off into all different sorts of stories and storytelling. "

VAMPIRELLA: SOUTHERN GOTHIC #1 is solicited in the Diamond June Previews catalog for release in August. Johnny Desjardins, whose artwork on the current VAMPIRELLA STRIKES miniseries has gained him a dedicated following, will contribute the Main cover edition, while fan-favorite VAMPIRELLA model poses for the Subscription-Only photo variant, limited only to retailer initial orders as a reward for dedicated Dynamite fans.

Elephantmen Hits #50 This July from Image Comics

ELEPHANTMEN, Richard Starkings' epic science fiction series exploring the ramifications of genetic experimentation, war, and racism, is reaching a milestone this July: its 50th issue. ELEPHANTMEN debuted in 2006, published by Image Comics, a spin-off of Starkings self-published (and now Image title) HIP FLASK.
Following a group of human/animal hybrid super-soldiers who are struggling to integrate themselves into a society that is often hostile to their very existence, the series has gone on be collected into six hardcovers and trade paperbacks. It has featured art by Ladrönn, Boo Cook, Chris Burnham, Shaky Kane, and Axel Medellin, and the cover of ELEPHANTMEN #43 is among the work that earned Brandon Graham a "Best Cover Artist" Eisner Award nomination.

"Fifty issues! One more and ELEPHANTMEN is as old as I am!" marveled creator and writer Starkings, who also owns the well-respected comics lettering studio Comicraft. "When we launched the series in 2006, I thought maybe I had six issues in me, yet here we are, seven years later and six ELEPHANTMEN collections in stores and another in preparation for release this summer!"

ELEPHANTMEN #50, "Blue Collar Blues," has a cover by renowned comics artist Frank Quitely, and comes after the close of the monumental "Sleeping Partners" story arc. It brings the story into the intimate sphere of one Elephantman, following his everyday life with its struggles and small triumphs. The issue is illustrated by series regular Axel Medellin and Gabe Bautista and also includes a re-presentation of ELEPHANTMEN #1, with art by Moritat, and a gallery of covers by Brandon Graham, Camilla d'Errico, J. Scott Campbell, Brian Bolland,, Chris Weston, Ladrönn, Ian Churchill, and Ed McGuinness.

ELEPHANTMEN #50 will be in stores on July 17 and is available for pre-order from the May issue of Previews (Diamond code MAY130418). The revised and expanded ELEPHANTMEN VOLUME 1, which now includes issue #0 with art by Ladrönn and an introduction by Jonathan Ross, will be in stores on May 22. The newest collection, VOLUME 6: EARTHLY DESIRES, due in stores in July 10, is also available for preorder (MAY130420).

Skybound and Image Comics Ghosted is Coming this July

Criminal mastermind Jackson T. Winters has spent the last decade languishing in prison after his last heist went horribly wrong. Now, in return for breaking him out, a rich eccentric tasks him with capturing a ghost for the millionaire's macabre collection in the new Image Comics/Skybound mini-series GHOSTED.

Written by Joshua Williamson and drawn Goran Sdzuka, with Miroslav Mrva on colors and Eisner nominee Sean Phillips (FATALE) providing covers, GHOSTED, set to debut in July, is a dark supernatural mystery crossed with a classic caper. Expert thief Winters must assemble a completely different kind of team than the one he lost ten years before, made up of ghost hunters and paranormal experts. But the haunted house they enter may be more of a match than they'd bargained for.

"For years my obsession has been to do a book that took place in a haunted house; a crime and horror title, one that was fun but went to some dark edgy places,” said writer Williamson. "'Gritty' has become a sort of pop word to describe a certain kind of book but it really is the best way to illustrate Ghosted.”

Williamson isn't shy about putting his characters' dark sides on display, either. "One of my favorite things to write are the bad guys. The underbelly of the crime world. Characters that are tortured, and are kind of jerks. Ghosted has plenty of that and has been a blast.”

Williamson spoke about GHOSTED at Comic Book Resources in March, after the title's announcement at Emerald City Comicon, and at PreviewsWorld. The first issue of the five-issue miniseries is set to go on sale on July 10. It can be pre-ordered now (Diamond Code MAY130405) from the May issue of Previews.
